The Man Christ Jesus
Growing up, I heard that Jesus was God. I heard that he was able to do what he did because he was divine and not subject to the weakness of “flesh”. I heard that he could have done what his revilers said to him on the cross, that if he was the son of God he could have come down from the cross. This is what the spirit of antichrist teaches. I do not recall being taught what is written in John 5:19... ‘The Son can do nothing of himself, but what he seeth the Father do: for what things soever he doeth, these also doeth the Son likewise.’
When I began to read the scriptures for myself, I could see verses like 1 John 3:2 - ‘Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.’ If Jesus is God, and we could aspire to be like God, then we could fall into the condemnation of the devil, aspiring to be like the Most High. Let the rest of these scriptures speak for themselves respecting the nature of Jesus:
1 Timothy 2:5
For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus.
1 John 4:1-3
Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world. Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God: And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world.
God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good?
Behold, his soul which is lifted up is not upright in him: but the just shall live by his faith.
But of that day and that hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels which are in heaven, neither the Son, but the Father.
For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh: That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.
1 Corinthians 11:3
But I would have you know, that the head of every man is Christ; and the head of the woman is the man; and the head of Christ is God.
But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law, To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons. And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father. Wherefore thou art no more a servant, but a son; and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ.
And [Stephen] said, Behold, I see the heavens opened, and the Son of man standing on the right hand of God.
